Leaving it all on the Field: Ella VanAlstynes Impressive Softball Career Comes to a Close

Senior Ella VanAlstyne is giving it her all in her last year on the Woodland Softball Team before she moves on to bigger and better as a D1 athlete at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. 

VanAlstyne has played on the Woodland Softball Team ever since she was a freshman, receiving a ring as a state champion for the past three years in a row. 

VanAlstyne, a senior team captain, explains how she helps motivate the team on and off the field. 

“I always strive to perform my best, especially when things are tough. I believe that staying focused and giving 100% effort can keep the team’s energy up,” said VanAlstyne. 

VanAlstyne, post highschool is majoring in Exercise Science and Fitness Management as well as a minor in nutrition, which seems to be a very competitive program and field. 

VanAlstyne is excited to lead the team this year and tries to be the best example for her team. 

“Off the field, I lead by staying around a positive crowd, keeping my grades up, and putting in extra work such as pitching and hitting lessons to improve my game,” said VanAlstyne.

 I believe that dedication and leadership both in school and in softball sets a good example for my teammates.” 

VanAlstyne feels bittersweet about leaving the team but is excited for the next chapter and the opportunities that lie ahead. 

“Pressure makes me perform,” said VanAlstyne “But as my coach always says, ‘pressure is a privilege.’”
