With the 2025 football season underway, one name is already generating buzz among Woodland fans: Jack Brunetti, starting quarterback and senior captain. As the team gears up for what promises to be a defining season, all eyes are on Brunetti to steer the Hawks toward greatness.
For Brunetti, one game stands out from his football memory: the unforgettable semi-final matchup against Ansonia.
“Playing against Ansonia in the semi-finals [2024] is my most memorable memory,” said Brunetti. “That game taught me how to stay calm under pressure and showed how close we could make it.”
Now a seasoned quarterback, Brunetti first hit the gridiron in fourth grade playing flag football before stepping up to tackle in seventh. Since then, he’s developed into the Hawks’ offensive commander — a cool-headed leader known for his composure in high-stakes moments.
“I focus on taking deep breaths,” said Brunetti, when asked how he handles pressure. “It helps me stay focused and lead the team, even when the game is on the line.”
This season, Brunetti’s goals are clear and ambitious.
“I want us to go undefeated, and I want to go all-state,” said Brunetti. Once again, it’s Ansonia, a familiar and intimidating rival.
But if anyone is up for the challenge, it’s Brunetti. His leadership isn’t just about play-calling and passing yards. It’s about accountability, effort, and inspiration.
“A good leader influences their team to play great, leads by example, and takes charge and responsibility when facing adversity,” said Brunetti.
As the Hawks chase a state championship, Brunetti will be at the heart of it all–calm under pressure, hungry for victory, and ready to lead Woodland to the top.
