One of the great runners on the Woodland cross country team is Logan Mack, junior boys cross country captain due to his commitment and dedication to the team. He’s going to expand on the abundance of talent that has led him to have high hopes for the team’s chances in winning meets this season. He believes that with training the cross country team could become the best in the league.
The team’s top five that are expressly good with their times and pace throughout the races, includes Mack, Hunter Stead, Drew McDonald, Jaxson Hullstrung and a new freshman, Jake Sandberg.
Along with the top five all the new and upcoming freshmen are good as well.
Mack wants to expand on the freshman’s talent by making sure the team is focusing at practice and during drills which he believes will build onto the already great talent within the team.
During his sophomore year Mack suffered a grave injury that took him out of the season. This has brought an understanding of the importance of not slacking off. So he prides himself on ensuring that his teammates do everything the right way to stay in the game.
He already has a plan of action: “My strategy is to get to know everyone, even every single freshman. I want to get to know what their strengths are, and just improve on it,” said Mack.
He knows there are many ways to improve the team’s strength such as doing things as a team to bond, practicing harder, and preparing for meets in a more professional manner in order to run better during the meet.
Despite Mack’s effective form of leadership and motivation he can also show discipline when needed such as when team members are talking while the coach is talking or disrespecting other team members. Proper discipline would save everyone from trouble with Coach Lownds.
Mack also ensures that the team stays together through each practice, whether it’s within easy runs or workouts, so they grow closer together, which allows for easier wins.
If the team were to face a loss, he would motivate the team to try harder at practice and improve as much as possible to ensure a win at the next meet. “I’d kind of motivate them to keep pushing,` you got this, keep going,” said Mack. With the proper motivation he believes the team can improve as much as needed or more to win the next meet.
Mack loves being captain because he can bring the members of his team together and guide and motivate them. He encourages his team to ice and do proper stretches. He just loves being a junior captain and helping his team. “I love doing it because it was a great experience when the [past] captains taught me,” said Mack. “I just want to carry on that legacy.”
