The wait is over, way over. Woodland puts the “late” in the latest homecoming ever. This controversial topic arises each year as students are comfortably into the start of the second quarter, preparing for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Now, spirit week and homecoming dresses are on their minds.
The average time of year for the homecoming dance in most high schools is late September or early October. However, at Woodland every year the homecoming dance is always the Friday before Thanksgiving, which is late November, and that’s something Woodland senior Addison Burke noticed.
“Each year on social media how most people have their homecoming dances way before ours,” Said Burke.
Some students argue that it makes sense given the time of year we have it due to spirit week and the week leading up to it. Senior Helayna Desrochers would like to see it stay.
“I like where it is because it’s the Friday before Thanksgiving, with spirit week being the following week,” Said Desrochers.
No matter the date, whether it’s late September or late November, the goal remains the same: school spirit and celebration. Each year, while students pick out homecoming dresses and plan spirit week outfits, the hope is that an out-of-season dance can still deliver an in-season level of fun.
