Buns of Glory: Kane’s Hunt for Burger Perfection

Aidan Kane’s senior project is a unique and almost unheard-of endeavor. A senior project mainly focused on the way a burger tastes. Something so versatile yet so common is made into entertainment for those to enjoy within the reach of their fingertips. A subject that is being transformed into something that will be the hit headline on Senior Project Presentation Day.

“If it’s meaty, creamy, cheesy, and juicy, it’s gonna be good, good cheese, good toppings, and a great sauce makes a great burger,” said Kane.

Kane tends to hit local spots with friends to review burgers. He’s reviewed at places like the Tap House, Smashburgers, and other local restaurants that are key to small-town charm.

But the small town charm isn’t what gives you a good review. For Kane flavor is everything; presentation doesn’t play a big factor in his review. As long as the burger tastes like heaven and the servers are diligent, the burger is going to get a gold star of approval.

Kane recognizes that sometimes there is a certain bias when reviewing food, especially if it’s a friend’s or family’s restaurant. With Kane he tries to be objective; it’s either a good burger or a bad burger.

“Everything matters, especially the amount of time it takes to achieve the food. If it’s too quick or too slow, the experience isn’t really there. But when you have that perfect medium of not too fast or not too slow, it really adds to eating the perfect burger.”

Kane talks about burgers like it’s his soulmate; that’s why he chose them for his senior project. On the day of the presentation, you might notice similar projects. He and his friends developed this idea together, each selecting a different type of food to review. They each went their own way and took their ideas and ran with them.

Kane is almost like Dave Portnoy, but with burgers. Dave Portnoy is a social influence who reviews pizza and rates it with one bite. With the same style Kane is bringing more local and amazing spots to light. And he is letting you know, the more popular his reviews get, the more people he hopes to bring to these spots that are absolutely fabulous but have been hidden away. Because who really wants to go to McDonald’s to get a hamburger when something that is so amazing is only 5 minutes away from you.

Sometimes, trying a new spot doesn’t go so well, and when Kane is faced with the troubling truth that not everyone can make a fantastic burger. In a kind and respectful manner, Kane lets you know and guides you to steer clear of those that aren’t the best burger joint around.

“Hamburgers are the food or flavor of America, and I’m an American, and I know good hamburgers,” said Kane

In reality, there are so many wonderful burger spots all over Connecticut. Even though we were known for our fabulous New Haven Apizza we were the first to invent the amazing creation that Kane is reviewing.

Kane has no set budget, but does that really matter if you’re trying to find the burger that stops all? Actually, yes, it does matter, but Kane is making a meal out of food reviewing and not a simple taste and peck; he treats this as a part of his day, and the reviewing just happens to be an addition to the fun.

“You gotta have good seasoned meat between the buns, it’s everything,” said Kane

More than anything, the presentation, the ambiance, the flavor, and the sauce are what really make Kane consider the score he would give a place, because everyone wants a burger that’s a 10/10 and checks all the boxes.

In reality, most fast food chains perfect their burgers with years and years of small modifications in seasoning, ingredients, and may even change them altogether to get customers to buy them. But over time, burgers have turned into a chemical-filled carb bomb that doesn’t taste as good as the ones you cook on your grill at home.

Many in-house restaurants source their products locally, rather than fast food joints that receive the products already frozen and store them for months on end in deep freezers. Maybe next time you hit the town, consider watching @Kaneburgers on Instagram to figure out where you’re going
