A Chipotle Mexican Grill is being constructed on Bridge Street in Naugatuck. This is replacing the Eastern Company regional headquarters. In 2020 Wendy’s planned to buy the property to build a standalone restaurant there. This deal fell through and the building seemed to be abandoned. The effects were not apparent until recently when the front windows were blown out.
The demolition started in June of 2024 and it was fully built by November. They are currently working on the interior of the building. An urgent care facility is planned to be built there too. At the moment shipping containers with interior items for the Chipotle are outside the building.
Many people are ecstatic about the opening of the Chipotle.
Prospect resident Daniel Babruk is excited to try the new restaurant. “Sure, I’ve never had Chipotle and it would be convenient to try some with this proximity.”
Some people aren’t as excited to visit the new location. Waterbury local Dylan Coxon says: “ I might stop by there once or twice if I’m in the area. The reason it won’t be my main Chipotle is because there is one in Southbury which is more convenient for me.”
When asked about the new Chipotle high schooler Tate Jorge said: “I do plan on going to the Chipotle because I really like the food and I’m in the area where it’s opening a lot.”
