Red Lion Hotel to be Demolished

The Red Lion hotel was built in 1968 on 100 Berlin RD cromwell CT. This hotel changed owners a few times over the years. It was the Crowne plaza hotel until 2016 when it became a Raddison. In 2018 it changed hands for the last time. This hotel was host to some conventions, such as “Furpocalypse” and others.

During its life as a hotel it faced many challenges. Many reviews complain about mold, leaking ceilings, dirty carpets, etc. What this place needed was a remodel, unfortunately the owners didn’t seem to notice this. This is most likely why it was tossed around so much near the end of its career. In 2019 the hotel was bleeding money, by December it had lost $327,764 dollars. It made it to January 10, 2020. On this day they planned to start the necessary repairs. It just so happened that the department of revenue services shut the hotel down on the same day. More than 100 people had to leave without warning.

Over the years, the hotel had been broken into many different times. There have also been many different people that uploaded videos of the location which would only boost the popularity of it. The hotel was in great condition during 2020 but it fell into decay and destruction through the four years of time. Recently the government of Connecticut granted three million to the town of Cromwell to do work on the Red Lion.

Lexington Partners in Hartford, is the company that will be demolishing and redeveloping the property. They estimate that the cost of demolition will be four million dollars. This would be only one million dollars with the grant. Lexington is planning to build a mixed use property for both housing and storefronts. Though they haven’t started work yet, they believe that construction will be finished in 2027.
