The Warmth of Hot Chocolate

There’s something about the rich, velvety texture of hot chocolate that immediately transforms a cold, dreary day into a moment of warmth and comfort. The deep aroma of melted chocolate, paired with a hint of cinnamon or vanilla, fills the air and is often a trademark of the holiday season.

With all of this talk about hot chocolate, there’s one very important thing to consider when it comes to creating the perfect cup of hot chocolate. What kind of liquid is the best to use for hot chocolate? When asked, Joseph Fortier, Alex Luddy, and Blake Poloski all said they enjoyed milk in their hot chocolate while some people actually prefer their hot chocolate to be made with water.

Polaski enjoys making it instead of getting it from popular places such as Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks.

“I like to make my own hot chocolate, Starbucks is alright but it’s too expensive.”

Even between making your own and buying it made from somewhere else, everybody has a specific way they like to make their hot chocolate.

“I get a pot of milk and heat it up slowly until it’s almost boiling, then I like to add cocoa powder slowly and stir it,” Polaski said.

When it comes to hot chocolate, not everyone likes to make their own; some people just like to sit back and enjoy it. Fortier likes to enjoy his hot chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream if his wife puts it in.

“I never make my own hot chocolate. It’s either my wife or I go to Dunkin. Honestly I prefer Dunkin but I’ll say my wife makes better hot chocolate so I don’t get in trouble.”

When asking multiple people where they like to get their hot chocolate, their answers vary from Dunkin to Labons, and even Costco. Many people find one place that they like to get their hot chocolate and stick to that like Luddy.

“I like going to Dunkin Donuts since I don’t like to venture far, it’s often a hit or miss however.”

Hot chocolate is such a staple of the Christmas season that even with big places like Dunkin making it bad sometimes, people just can’t skip their hot chocolate trips.

Many people have noticed that when it comes to different hot chocolate flavors there aren’t many.

“I would make a spicy flavor of hot chocolate with paprika in it,” said Polaski.

When others were asked most went with a sweet flavor such as Oreo, cream, and even Kit-Kat.

From the first cup to the last sip, hot chocolate remains a beloved treat, offering not just warmth but a sense of comfort and nostalgia. Its simple, enduring charm will continue to bring moments of joy, one mug at a time.
