Every year, the entire community looks forward to Christmas break. Sitting down with the family to unwind and watch Christmas movies is a common pastime seen throughout the holiday season. Many families have that one movie they gravitate towards every year, while others like to experiment with different movies each time. With new Chrimstas movies hitting the scene every year, a choice many have to make is whether or not to try out those new movies or stick with the classics. Whether you choose to watch the oldies or the new movies, it is essential to make time for your family and friends regardless. Putting on a Christmas movie is the easiest way to bring a home together and enjoy the holiday season together.
“Me and my family watch the ‘Polar Express’ every year,” said freshman Jordan Dommel. “We also watch other old Christmas movies, but sometimes we watch the new ones.”
Dommel is a part of the majority of movie-watchers. Most people like having the same go-to movies every year that they can rely on, although it is still enjoyable to find those new movies that excite and bring the Christmas spirit to your home. With so many options to choose from, who can pick just one movie? Christmas favorites are all around. From ‘Home Alone’, to the ‘Christmas Chronicles’, to ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’, classics and new movies appear in the most popular and recommended movies to watch during the holiday season.
“I like the classic Christmas movies better. The new ones are still good but I like watching the same one’s every year,” said Dommel.
People often find comfort in having the same movies to fall back on. It provides a sense of comfortability and security among the craziness of the holiday season. It also brings a sense of tradition to the simple activity of watching a movie. There’s nothing better then coming home from a long day of Christmas shopping and watching your favorite Christmas movie while wrapping all of your gifts. It can make the viewing experience extra special when it happens during only one time of the year.
The best holiday memories can be found at home. What better way to unwind and relax then to do so surrounded by the people that bring you joy.
“I always watch the movies with my family during break,” said Dommel.
Whether your family lives with you at home or somewhere else, taking the time to gather together and watch movies together is a special part of the holiday season. Take time for those you love, and provide a sense of warmth and joy with your favorite holiday films.
The magic of Christmas movies isn’t just in the stories themselves, but in the traditions they create. The familiar sound of the opening credits, the first glimpse of snowy landscapes, or even the scent of freshly baked cookies in the air—these little details become intertwined with the experience of watching those favorite films.
As families settle in, some with hot cocoa in hand, others wrapped in cozy blankets, the bonds of tradition grow stronger with each passing year. In a season filled with hustle and bustle, those moments of togetherness can be the greatest gift of all.
