Paul Geary is not your average high school teacher. He’s a passionate educator who is changing the way students think about course selection. Instead of letting students guess or feel overwhelmed by the process, he’s made it something exciting and, most importantly, informed.
His idea was a clever QR code board that was set up in the English hallway. With just a quick scan, students can dive into a world of videos and detailed information about each class. No more blindly choosing courses—now students can explore different options, uncover new interests, and choose classes that truly fit who they are and where they want to go. It is a simple, tech-savvy way of turning a typically stressful task into something fun and meaningful.
This new board features an incredible amount of relief for many students that have trouble picking classes and feel stressed about picking classes. Many students get overwhelmed whilst choosing classes due to there sometimes not being enough information or background knowledge about the class. With this board there will be great improvements in picking classes because it will be less stressful, have more easily accessible information and overall set students up for an excellent year in their English classes.
This QR board will help aid students from making the wrong decision to the right decision and overall improve the mastery in different courses.
“We wanted to find another way to make sure students understood what the courses were like and then could hear about it from the teachers themselves,” said Geary.
The changes to class selection are still in the process of being finalized, but they’reexpected to have a positive impact on students and the overall academic experience. The goal is to make it easier for students to find classes that fit their needs and interests, which should lead to an increase in enrollment numbers. In addition, the adjustments are anticipated to improve passing rates, as students will be more likely to enroll in courses that align with their strengths and goals. Over time, these improvements should help students feel more at ease with the options available, leading to a more streamlined and stress-free class selection process. Ultimately, the hope is that this will make the entire academic experience feel more personalized and manageable for everyone.
