Pep band takes on Woodland by implementing school spirit all year round. Pep band is considered a club that plays instrumental music for Woodland Regional High School. This band will be found at a lot of sporting events with the director Ian Youngs.
“Pep Band is a unique club because it’s also part of a class; the concert band makes up the bulk of it and then a lot of students who have scheduling conflicts come and join pep band to get the same experience,” said Youngs.
When becoming a Pep band member it takes time for practice, interest in playing, and always trying your best. Anyone can become a Pep band member, even if you don’t really know how to play. To make the club flow and play good instrumental music all you have to do is “Try” says Mr. Youngs.
Pep bands play their instrumental music with the standard instruments. They deter from expensive instruments, and find ones that sound similar to make it more affordable for the club members. To become a Pep band member it takes time, interest and dedication to the club. Anyone can become a member, even if you don’t really know how to play. According to Youngs, to make the club flow and play good instrumental music all you have to do is try.
“We get the crowd re-engaged into the game. When something good happens we play something positive. When something bad happens we play something negative that hypes us up,” says Youngs.
Along with playing instrumental music and showing up for Woodland at sporting events; Pep band has their own traditions to keep the club running. They have 8th grade night, where the school band can come join the Woodland pep band help play and provide school spirit. They also have a new tradition called “bandsgiving” where they invite alumni to come celebrate the last game. They all collectively bring in goodies to share with Woodland alumni for celebration.
Pep Band is a huge part of Woodland school spirit. Pep bands provide instrumental music and excitement at sporting events; this boosts the school spirit. Pep band is very important to the Woodland community as they are big supporters for Woodlands sports teams.
If you want to join the Pep Band and help keep the school spirit involved all you have to do is try. “People think you have to be formerly good at an instrument, and that’s just not true. We’ll utilize your basic skills,” says Youngs.
