Woodland’s traditional pep rally: A highly competitive and iconic experience in a Woodland student’s life. Words can barely describe the intensity of the week of competition. The legendary pep rally that has been a cornerstone of Woodland tradition is getting a major twist this year—a spring edition.
The intensity of competition, the explosive school spirit, and the unforgettable excitement that defines this event are about to hit new heights.
On April 11th, the WRSG will host a spring pep rally, the first in Woodland history. This highly anticipated event promises to be an exciting afternoon filled with high-energy activities, team celebrations, and heartfelt tributes to the school’s dedicated staff. With only one pep rally traditionally held each year, this spring edition is an uncommon chance for the entire community to come together and show off their Hawk pride.
“It’s a chance to unify the student body before seniors graduate and the students leave for the summer,” said Kaltrina Ameti, WRSG executive officer.
As the year winds down, the weight of exams, the stress of SATs, and the never-ending anticipation of summer break can drag everyone down. The struggle is real, and the energy can feel drained. That’s where the spring pep rally comes in. It’s a shot of adrenaline to push everyone through the final stretch, the ultimate boost to morale, and a reward for all the hard work and perseverance students have shown throughout the year.
“We wanted to do more big events toward the end of the year,” Ameti expressed. “The WRSG hosts many events at the beginning of the year, and then we tend to lack excitement at the end.”
One of the main highlights of the event will be the recognition of Woodland’s Winter and Spring Sports Teams, a chance for athletes to shine. These athletes will be celebrated for their hard-earned victories and encouraged for their upcoming seasons.
“I enjoy the idea of having a pep rally in the spring so we can finally walk out and be recognized,” said varsity baseball player, Jack Schwenger. “Usually, only the fall sports get something like that.”
The celebration will kick off with a bang. The winter sports teams will be honored first. As each team enters the gym, their achievements and records will be announced to celebrate their dedication, teamwork, and success during the season. This will be followed by a nearly identical recognition of the spring sports teams. Similarly, they will run into the gym with their coaches, but their previous records and achievements will be shared. The excitement in the air will hopefully motivate everyone to support these athletes as they gear up for their upcoming spring seasons.
While this spring pep rally draws inspiration from the fall event, there are some exciting differences. Forget the class spirit points and the class winner competition–this event will focus on celebrating everyone in the community. There’s no rivalry between classes here; instead, the emphasis is on unifying the students and honoring the staff. This change is to differentiate between the rallies and keep the rallies core ideas separate and unique.
“The idea was to make it more of a teacher-and-student-appreciation event,” explained Ameti. “It’s to differentiate both pep rallies and, this time, get teachers involved.”
The spring pep rally will take a fun and competitive turn when teachers and students square off in a fast-paced, action-packed dodgeball showdown. Eight teachers and eight students—two from each grade—will battle it out, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. The victorious team will get the ultimate bragging rights and the chance to smash a pie in the face of the losing team.
To top it all off, the pep rally will end with a moment of pride as Woodland is recognized as the 2025 CAS High School of the Year. This prestigious honor shines a spotlight on the entire school community–students, staff, and everyone who has made Woodland a truly outstanding place.
Woodland’s first-ever Spring Pep Rally promises to be an unforgettable event. A blend of athletic recognition, vibrant performances, hilarious competitions, and heartfelt tributes will unite the school community to celebrate everything that makes Woodland special.
Get ready to feel the school spirit like never before; this event is one you won’t want to miss.
