Captain Ava Artes, Junior Captain of the 2025 Woodland Cheer Team, is stepping into
her second consecutive year as the team captain, bringing a wealth of experience and enthusiasm
to the role.
Ava’s leadership attitude is rooted in positivity and support, as she believes that a true
leader is someone who is not only kind and encouraging but also leads by example.
“A leader can be defined as someone who is positive and kind to everybody, someone who shows a good
example, someone who pushes people out of their comfort zone, and someone who always has a
good attitude, and is uplifting through hard times,” says Ava, highlighting the importance of
maintaining a positive environment for the team, especially during challenging moments.
Reflecting on the challenges faced during her first season as captain, Ava recalls how
difficult it was to adapt to the new coaching and the challenges of not having a full season.
Despite these obstacles, she persevered and gained valuable insight into the responsibilities of a
captain.
“Last season, without having a full season, I felt rushed with getting new coaches, and
the season was hard to get through. But now, with more experience, I feel much more confident
going into this season,” Ava shared.
She believes this season will be much smoother with the
team more organized and experienced this time around. Ava is optimistic about the team’s
potential in 2025, noting that with more captains and a bigger, more diverse group of voices, the team can achieve even greater success.
“I think we have higher potential this year than other
years, and we need to work really hard. This year, we have more captains, which means more
opinions that we can put together and make the team better,” she explains.
The increase in team size also comes with greater responsibilities. As cheerleading is a
group-oriented sport, Ava emphasizes the importance of teamwork. She knows that effective
communication, collaboration, and trust among the team members will be key to their success.
“This season, with a bigger team, it’s important that we stay connected, support one another, and
push each other to reach our full potential,” says Ava.
With competition season well underway, Ava is looking forward to the excitement and
challenges that come with the competition aspect of cheerleading.
“I’m really excited for the
competition and getting new uniforms,” she says eagerly.
The fresh uniforms represent a new
chapter for the team, and Ava’s enthusiasm for both the competitive spirit and the team’s unity
speaks volumes about her commitment as a leader.
With competition coming up and with Ava’s leadership, she will undoubtedly inspire the
team to elevate their performance, and with her positive attitude and experience, the Woodland
Cheer Team has the potential to shine even brighter this season.
