Peak Excitement: What Mountain Will the Ski Club Conquer in 2025?

After going to Bromley year after year, Mr. Misuraca decided it was time to switch the annual out-of-state ski trip to another mountain. With many slopes to choose from, the perfect mountain varies from person to person. Knowing this, he scouted out a few options and ended up with several main candidates.

There are four main mountains in consideration: Bromley (VT), Butternut (MA), Jiminy Peak (MA), and Magic (VT); each mountain has unique terrain and history.

Bromley, the mountain the Ski Club has conquered time and time again, is always a safe choice. It’s a family-friendly mountain that offers many features, from a good terrain park to challenging terrain for any skill level. The only obstacle for this trip is the cost; Bromley offers a higher group rate than previous years, making it less likely to be the final destination.

Butternut, one of the nicest mountains in Massachusetts, is known for being family-oriented with something for everyone.Another great feature is the cost; Butternut is known for keeping prices fair and offering deals throughout the season so everyone can enjoy skiing cheaply and easily. The only downside is the availability of their trails—only about three-quarters of their total trails are open, limiting the experience of exploring all they have to offer.

Jiminy Peak, a very interesting and innovative mountain, is the first mountain in North America to generate its own power using wind energy. They boast 96% snow coverage with advanced snowmaking technology and offer a grand total of 45 trails to explore. Jiminy Peak is also known for its off-season events, such as hosting weddings, concerts, festivals, and other large parties. However, they face the same issue as many southern slopes: they struggle to keep all trails available due to sudden temperature changes.

The mountain that stands out from the rest is Magic. Being Ski Club’s top choice, Magic offers various terrain, challenging trails, and multiple ski lifts to get you to the top quickly and efficiently. The resort boasts five different lifts, including a four-chair lift to minimize lift lines.

For advanced riders, Magic presents Black Magic, a black diamond trail featuring 40-50 degree pitches at the upper section, two major rock cliffs, and a third major headwall with large rock features and pine trees. After conquering this challenging terrain, you’ll encounter Black Line, another trail offering a steep face and an additional 800 vertical feet down to the base of the mountain.

Magic provides easier routes to the bottom if you’re not ready for such demanding terrain.Little Dipper is the beginner trail, perfect for finding your footing and practicing your skills without tackling difficult terrain.

If none of that suits your style, Magic also offers a terrain park where you can practice jumps, rails, boxes, and other maneuvers. The park is designed for multiple skill levels, so don’t be afraid to challenge yourself and try new moves.
