From the cafeteria to the hallway, the Pom Pom Poll of the week has made its name very popular, so popular that when there isn’t a question, students are disappointed.
“I make sure it’s posted on the TVs around Woodland,” said the Library Media Specialist, Jodie D’Alexander. “Kind of advertising what the question of the week is.”
When coming up with the questions, she bases them on what is well-liked in the students’ lives to make it more fun to participate. But when she is stumped, she searches for some fun yes or no questions.
“I try to get all the questions in advance; so I have all of the pom pom polls until the end of the school year, but I am running out of questions for next year,” said D’Alexander. “I will definitely be looking for student suggestions.”
Some questions have been reused, like when it comes to that time of year the “Who will win the Super Bowl” question is very popular.
D’Alexander feels that the questions that are more related to food have more popularity, for example: “Dunkin vs. Starbucks” or “Chick-fil-a vs. McDonalds”.
When there are less votes in the poll, she feels that it’s not because of the question.
“It’s not really so much the question, it’s the week,” said D’Alexander. “When we’ve had snow delays or days off from school, the results just aren’t as great as other weeks.”
D’Alexander came up with this idea a couple years ago at Woodland, and “it really took off”.
