Testing Out New Skills

After four years playing, quarterback for the Woodland Hawks Football Team, three year starter and senior captain Jack Brunetti decided to try something new — he joined the baseball team as a pitcher and has made an impact.

Jack started in the off-season going to pitchers and catchers camp, learning to manipulate his football mechanics into strong pitching mechanics.

“ It didn’t come easy,” said Brunetti. “ Some parts were similar, some different but with practice and great coaching I picked it up pretty quick.”

Brunetti was a competitive football player who instilled good habits at an early age.

“ It was hard to get used to a different sport. The practices are way less intense (than football), and some games I don’t even play,” said Brunetti. Even with the change Brunetti’s habits and persistence paid off for his senior year. He got opportunities to pitch and made the most of them.

“ I think I did good in the games I pitched in,” Brunetti said.

Jack’s friends were the main reason he played. Having an excuse to throw around a baseball, laugh and have fun cured Brunetti’s boredom.

“ Baseball gave me something to focus on, and a opportunity to have that team experience with my friends one more time,” said Brunetti.

With the Hawks in the state playoffs Jack can definitely say he helped them get there. “I’m glad I played, I had fun and made more memories and friends for when high school ends.”
