For senior Colby Marsan, being captain of the Woodland Hawks Football team means so much more.

“ It means leadership, discipline and leading the guys to make sure everyone is doing what they’re supposed to be doing,” said Marsan.

The Naugatuck Greyhounds are Woodland ‘s biggest rivals on the football field and Marsan had been counting down the days until the game against Naugatuck.

“ I’m psyched for Naugatuck. Just you know, being able to play with my guys that I’ve grown up with for so long, and it’s finally my senior season.”said Marsan

You know, we had a lot of people say it’s going to be a good building year, and as you know, we’re not meant to do as well. We opened up, killing Gilbert and Killingly. So I mean, just here to make a statement. ” said Marsan

This year Woodland Football has made huge changes to the football program. They have had an entirely new coaching staff, recruiting new players and new captains.

Marsan knows the responsibility of being a captain. “ I was a captain last year for track, so I’m kind of used to it. But you know, just leading the team, leading the guys is a different feeling,” said Marsan.

Marsan started his football career in middle school.

“ I started playing football when I was in eighth grade, to find some sort of sport, just to do something,  to be athletic, and I just ended up falling in love with it.”

Marsan has logged extensive time on the field which has helped him achieve his captain title.

“ I think us as captains, we keep the energy of everyone on the team up. We make sure that everyone, even if we’re down by a touchdown or something like that, or say that we make a mistake,[We] pick our guys up and make sure we just keep going,” said Marsan.

When Marsan leaves The Woodland Hawks football program he is also leaving with  memories he will cherish–The pregame Jersey Mike’s, pasta parties and many more.

“ My favorite memory was a time when it started raining in practice and a huge bolt of lightning just struck like a field across, and we had coaches Coach Wanzi and Coach Lato. They both jumped and, I remember Coach Wanzi started running, and Coach Lato just hopped over a fence, and it was funny,” said Marsan.

When asked if he wants to play at the next level, “We’ll see what options come my way.”. Even though Marsan is gonna be sidelined for the rest of the season. He is still gonna lead the team. He has the advice to lead them to the next level.

“ Just stay disciplined. Keep the discipline that comes from the sport,”
