Stepping into the Spotlight

In a sport that is about being judged, Olivia Jevarjian has that fear under control.

Jevarjian has been a dancer since she was just two years old, starting in the studio at a young age. At 10 years old she started competing for her dance studio. As she got older she switched things up by getting out of the studio and starting high school dance.  ¨I am honestly so grateful that I made that change,” said Jevarjian.

“The sport of dance takes time;

 all the hours upon hours of practicing for the big days, the whole week is full of practices,  from such a young age.

She has the patience of the art of dance even when there are hard parts.

 “I feel underestimated and maybe overlooked,” said Jevarjian. “It’s definitely hard.” .Even though practices are challenging, Jevarjian really looks forward to the hard work paying off on game days and competitions. “I think that sometimes people don’t understand how much hard work and dedication we put into it and how long we practice and what we do.¨

All the work really paid off when she was named the 2026-2027 Dance captain.

“ I was really excited. I really like my team, and I was excited to lead it, to become someone everyone can rely on during this season.¨

The big moment that the dancers   have been waiting for is Friday Night Lights–cheering on the sidelines getting ready as a team.

Jevarjian´s favorite part of game day is halftime.

¨It’s fun to dance with all your friends in front of all your other peers. The sidelines are also really fun.¨

Practicing long hours and hard work prepared her for this moment. This sport is a lot of fun and to show off her real personality even being part of the dance team is a huge thing. Being the winner of the Naugatuck Valley League three times as a senior on the dance team is a huge accomplishment.

¨My favorite memory is probably winning states in 2025.¨

As the season starts,the lights are getting brighter on Jevrvajian´s last season, making it one to remember.

̈I also really enjoyed last season. We had a really successful season. We were really brought together and we bonded¨.
