As senior captain of the Woodland Regional High School 2026-2027 dance team, Madison Mitchell thinks of it as having leadership and making everyone feel united.
For Mitchell, being chosen for this role really made her think about what she could do to have everyone succeed this season. “When I got chosen to be captain, I was really honored to represent my team, especially since I’ve been a part of the dance team for three years prior to that. And I really wanted to help out in getting our achievements,” said Mitchell. She takes being captain extremely seriously in trying to make everyone have fun and succeed this season.
For Mitchell, being the leader that she is, also comes with many memories being made that will stick with her and the team forever. “Honestly I think that one of my favorite team memories was my sophomore year when we won a state championship, and just like being together and everything was really nice,” Mitchell says. She always comes with the responsibility of leaving a mark and making sure the team is as healthy and close as possible.
It’s not just reminiscing about the past, but creating new memories as well. “This year for the 26-27 dance season, I am really excited for the new dances that we are creating, and also football games,” Mitchell says. Especially on the sideline, she always makes sure the team is together and on point. Halftime dances make her feel good about what she has accomplished for her team.
Although being captain comes with having a lot of fun, there is more to it than just fun, “ It’s a big responsibility, but also a way of ending it out and showing the underclassmen what it’s like to be captain and help step up for the whole team.” She plays her part as captain and being energetic is also fun, but never forgets to be responsible and work hard.
Mitchell has put many years of hard work and dedication into getting this spot as captain. “I have been dancing since I was eighteen months old, so this is my sixteenth year of dance.” She has never stopped dancing or given up on this sport which really shows how much she deserved this privilege
Captain of any team is a huge responsibility, but Mitchell makes it her goal to make everyone feel at home. She makes sure everyone is caught up with the dances, and ready for performances. “I think that the biggest responsibility that comes with being captain is making sure everyone feels included, said Mitchell. “And making sure the whole team feels united, and together.”
