Racing to the Top

Being a captain is a privilege that one must earn. It requires immense effort to get a preferable outcome. Andrew Orlowski is no exception; he has put in the work and waited patiently for the outcome.

He has been running for most of his life and has been on the cross-country team since he was in 6th grade. He is extremely dedicated to the team and is willing to do anything possible to be the best that he physically can.

“I have always wanted to get to the top,” said Orlowski. “I have wanted to get to a point where I am the leader or the captain. I feel as though I have always had that [leadership] nature, and I have finally accomplished that.” Orlowski’s drive is what separates him from your average player; you have to do what others won’t to be on the top.

Cross country, being an outside sport, requires running over terrain that is never perfect.

“I have always been a very active and very outdoorsy kind of guy. I have always loved to be \outside,” said Orlowski. “Especially creating friendships with people who also love to do that same thing.”

Becoming captain was a big step for Orlowski, as he hoped to demonstrate his leadership abilities and explain why he should be captain. Orlowski plans to lead his team to a state title for Woodland Regional High School.

“I want to prove that I am worthy of being the team captain,” said Orlowski.

Orlowski has made it clear that he has immense respect for all of his teammates. He knows everyone is a precious part of the team, and everyone has their own role that makes the cross-country team so great.

Orlowski plans on doing something other than cross country in college since he plans to be an electrician at a trade school. If he can take the next step, he wants to become a lineman and as a lineman he would install, maintain, and repair electrical distribution and transmission systems such as cables, wires, and circuit breakers. But over the past three years, Orlowski has demonstrated devotion to the team. “I feel I’m a good leader,” said Orlowski. “I am confident in my leadership abilities.” He knows that he will continue to put his all into the sport so they can have a great season.
