Math Team Fundraiser: MIT Splash Event in Boston

Woodland’s Math Team participated in a field trip on March 15th to attend the “Splash MIT” event in Boston, Massachusetts. The event provides a unique opportunity for students to explore complex and abstract mathematical concepts in an engaging academic environment.

This annual teaching and learning extravaganza, founded in 1988, is hosted by MIT students and offers middle and high school students the chance to participate in a full day of lectures and classes from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Students had the chance to engage in hands-on activities, collaborate with like-minded peers, and gain insights from MIT students who are passionate about their fields of study. For many math team members, it was a very inspiring and intellectually stimulating experience.

To help fund the trip, the math team held a fundraiser on February 27th, 2025, in partnership with The Original Antonios in Beacon Falls. Customers who mentioned the fundraiser while placing their orders contributed a portion of the proceeds to support the team’s travel expenses.

“It will be a great opportunity to expose students to more abstract and complex mathematical experiences,” said Junior Captain Noah Wilde. “These kinds of challenges not only deepen their understanding, but also help them to develop critical problem-solving skills that will be valuable in college and life after school.”

The team hopes to attend more events like Splash MIT, and continue to foster a love for problem-solving and advanced mathematics within their school community.
