Making Memories while being a Role Model

By Mason Southard

Natalie Strachan cheerleading captain, is looking forward to a great cheer season and is excited to get to know new members of the team.

One of the main reasons that she is excited for this season is because of all her fun memories in her past seasons.

When asked about her most memorable moment in cheer, Strachan mentioned her favorite memory is from freshman year.

“It was when I really started loving cheer and I got really close with all of my teammates, even those who were upperclassmen,” said Strachan

Facing challenges is easy when Strachan is there to help with her impressive leadership skills such as having more of a kind and loving personality than skilled and competitive. To help out the team she will encourage everyone to try their hardest to contribute to a great team and season.

Even after a tough loss she tells her team to keep their heads up and work even harder to get better.  The most significant challenge the team faces are the injuries. Unfortunately, the cheer team faces injury problems a lot but is now able to overcome these injuries by the proper care and stretches.

“Every single person is essential to a stunt group, so having people who get injured creates a difficult situation,” said Strachan.

Ensuring that the new members have a good time and improving their skills without any injuries, Strachan has her teammates stretch. She will also talk to her teammates, creating a safe space for her team to relax from stress but also being mindful about what to work on.

“ I feel special to be a role model for the younger girls on the team,”
