After a strong run to a state championship in his sophomore year, Jack Schwenger is stepping into this season ready to lead as a captain of the baseball team. Now an upperclassman, Schwenger has already experienced success at the highest level, and he’s determined to bring that same energy and focus into this year.
Heading into this season, Schwenger’s goals are clear and ambitious.
“My personal goals are to get better at every aspect of the game and lead the team to a championship,” he said.
With a determined mindset, Schwenger is focused on pushing both himself and his teammates to reach their full potential. He draws inspiration from his role model, Mookie Betts, whose work ethic and consistency have made him one of the best in the game. As a leader like Betts, Schwenger strives to be a complete player who can impact the game in multiple ways and emphasize action over words.
“My leadership style is definitely leading by example,” explained Schwenger. “I always try to be the best on the field, and you have to think like this so you can play freely and fluidly.”
For Schwenger, playing with confidence and freedom is key, not just for his own success, but for inspiring his teammates to do the same. By performing at a high level, he sets the tone for the entire team.
Schwenger also carries lessons learned throughout his career. If he could go back and talk to his freshman self, his advice would be simple:
“Don’t overthink anything, and just play.”
That mentality continues to shape his approach, allowing him to stay composed in high-pressure situations.
With postseason aspirations in sight, Schwenger is ready to lead his team through every challenge ahead. Grounded in experience, driven by high expectations, and committed to his teammates, he aims to guide the team back to championship success.
