Senior students mark your calendars: Scholarship Night is Thursday May 21st at six o’clock p.m., which currently features 60 to 70 active scholarship applications for students.
After applying for many scholarships, students must wait to see if they were selected for Scholarship Night.
“As we start to get information back, we start inviting students,” said Guidance Director, Janine Murdy.
It is an important night for students because they are getting honored by their community.
“Most of these scholarships aren’t going to pay full tuition but it’s a way to help Woodland students on their way,” said Murdy.
Scholarships have many different meanings. Businesses, memories, and booster clubs are all things people offer to students. Businesses give scholarships about what their businesses do. Sometimes families like to memorialize relatives or family members by giving a scholarship in their name. And finally Woodland sports teams like to give scholarships to seniors who are graduating.
“The Fire Departments, Lions Club, LaBonne’s Market, Little City Barbershop, do scholarships. So all of these different community organizations who want to do something for our students, put their name into that program and then students apply for those scholarships,” said Murdy.
For Murdy, she encourages seniors to apply because every little bit helps.
“It’s just a nice night to get recognized before you go out into the world,” said Murdy.
