A bunch of people say being a captain is a privilege, but for captain football player Evan Mastropietro, it’s an honor. This is Mastropietro’s first year as a captain, and he is already doing the captain role correctly.

He is a great leader on and off the field with teammates and classmates. On the field, he leads his team to victory, and off the field he leads his teammates to do well in class and to have good behavior. Evan is a team captain but he doesn’t prioritize everything for himself; he wants all his teammates to feel the same success and wants all his teammates to succeed on and off the field. Evan wants all players on the team including the underclassmen to be treated with respect.“

¨There is no such thing as freshman or underclassmen duties especially if we are all a team,” Mastropietro said. This  just shows how much of a team leader Mastropietro is. And what a week of football looks like for Woodland. There is film either on Sunday mornings or Monday before practice. Mondays are offensive, Tuesdays are defensive, Wednesdays are offensive and defensive, Thursday is a walkthrough, and Friday is finally game-day.

Mastropietro wants everyone to succeed and  even if his teammates are down he’s there to pick them up and tell them to keep going.

Looking back into Mastropietro’s career he says one play stuck out to him the most which was when he scored a 40-yard touchdown against Seymour in the NVL championship game. But that’s not what was so special to him, the most special thing about that whole play is celebrating with his teammates which he calls his brothers because if you’re on the football team then you’re a whole family. selfless on the field, he does everything he can for his team to win.
