Vitaminwater, Victories, and Varsity Leadership

For senior captain Kate Lisowski, bringing high energy each day to practice and games makes it beneficial for her and her teammates to perform their best.

“I believe it’s really important to have a positive team environment,” said Lisowski.

Lisowski begins every game day with a consistent set of habits to get into that competitive mindset.

“I’m pretty superstitious, so I like to keep things pretty consistent. I always drink Vitaminwater and sometimes Alani before games, but besides that, I try to stay really loose and comfortable, hoping that will carry over to the game,” said Lisowski.

She feels there wasn’t anyone she looked up to, but she always tried her best to fit in with the older, stronger players.

“I wanted to do my job and make the most of the opportunities I was given as a starting freshman,” said Lisowski.

One of her most memorable moments was when the team won state championships in 2023 and 2024, but one of those championships left a greater impact.

“Those were some of the best days of my life. Specifically, the 2024 championship was extra special because we went into that game really confident, and it was a great game to play in,” said Lisowski. “The rest of the day was a big celebration with the fire trucks driving us back to Woodland, getting ice cream, and a team pool party at night.”

As Lisowski has grown with this sport, the advice she would give to her younger self would be to “Focus on your relationships with your coaches and teammates, and everything will fall into place.”

The impact she hopes to leave when she graduates is a fun environment for everyone to feel comfortable in.

“It’s easy to get frustrated while playing a sport, so I really want to make sure it’s as fun for everyone as possible,” said Lisowski.
